Pricing and availability
The smartphone duos are launched in India for now and might be carried over to other markets in the near future. The Redmi Note 9 Pro is priced at INR12,999 (Approx. USD175) for 4GB+64GB model and INR15,999 (Approx. USD215) for the 6GB+128GB model. It will go on sale starting March 17.
On the other hand, the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max starts at INR14,999 (Approx. USD202) for the 6GB+128GB model and goes upwards to INR18,999 (Approx. USD256) for the top-end 8GB+128GB model. The smartphone will hit the shelves starting March 25.
Differences between Redmi Note 9 Pro and Note 9 Pro Max
Although, the Redmi Note 9 Pro and the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max are driven by the same processor the former packs up to 6GB RAM while the latter makes use of up to 8GB RAM. In terms of storage, both the smartphones come with 64GB or 128GB UFS 2.1 default storage which can be expanded up to 512GB using a microSD card in a dedicated slot.
Regarding the camera, the Redmi Note 9 Pro features a 16MP selfie camera while the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max mounts a 32MP selfie camera. On the back, both the smartphones pack quad camera setup. The Redmi Note 9 Pro’s main sensor is of 48MP resolution while the Note 9 Pro Max’s main sensor is of 68MP resolution. However, the rest of the three rear-mounted sensors- 8MP (ultra-wide), 5MP (telephoto), and 2MP (depth)- are the same for both the phones.

Also, the devices differ in terms of fast charging technology as the Note 9 Pro is offered with an 18W in-box charger while the Max version uses a more powerful 33W fast charger out-of-the-box, which can fill the battery for up to 50% in just 30 minutes.
Similarities between Redmi Note 9 Pro and Note 9 Pro Max
There are tons of similarities between Redmi Note 9 Pro and Note 9 Pro Max. Both of the smartphones feature a 6.67-inch full HD+ (2400x1080p) LCD screen with a 20:9 aspect ratio and 450 nits of brightness.
The smartphones come with a center-aligned punch-hole cutout on the Gorilla Glass 5 protected front panel. The Gorilla Glass 5 protection also extends to the glass back as well as the rear camera module.
Under the hood, both the phones are driven by the 8nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G octa-core SoC mated to Adreno 618 GPU. They run Android 10 with MIUI 11 laid on top. The same size 5,020mAh battery is found in both the phones.
In terms of other common features, both the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Note 9 Pro Max feature a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, USB Type-C port, and the traditional 3.5mm audio jack.
Both support 4G VoLTE, 2×2 MIMO Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, IR Blaster, GPS as well as ISRO’s NavIC navigation system. For splash resistance, they are P2i certified. Both the smartphones will be available in Aurora Blue, Glacier White, and Interstellar Black.
