Today we will discuss a very important topic. Those of you who create web sites but there are many of you who don't know what the web is? And how it works. That's why I will discuss this topic today.
How does the Internet and the Web work?
To know how the web works we first need to know or understand how the internet works. A computer is connected to another computer through the Internet. And through the web, one person is connected to another person. To put it more simply, nowadays we all use Facebook. Everyone has 1,200 friends on Facebook. And friends are people. And Facebook is a web or web site. That is, the web is connecting us with those people. And the Internet is connecting your computer with the computer of a thousand or more people.
The internet is actually made up of many networks. Anything can be connected to the internet, not just a computer or laptop. Everything from the fridge AC in your home. People are working on a technology called IOT (INTERNET OF THINGS) to connect fridge or AC. The whole world will change through IOT. You can communicate with your fan, fridge, AC and more. Internet is playing a role for this work.
You can understand more easily by giving one more example. Think of Wikipedia which has a lot of information. The information that is on another person's computer. Now, if your computer is not connected to the Internet, can you access Wikipedia? Not just Wikipedia you can't access any web site without internet.
Again, suppose your computer is connected to the Internet, but the computer on which the Wikipedia information is not connected to the Internet, will you be able to see the information? The answer is no. That is, if you want to see Wikipedia information, both computers must be connected to the Internet. And the technology that shows the information of one computer on another computer is the web.
The web is a technology that is based on the internet. That is, the web technology has been created through the Internet. Through the Internet we interact with data or information on other people's computers. And through the web we see it beautifully in front of us. The system you are reading this tune on is the web. The web acts as a bridge to share data from one computer to another. The web basically uses HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) to communicate between two computers.
Some common terms of the web
There are many words associated with the web. About which we will now know properly. I tried to give some idea about the words below.
1/ Web page (web page): The page of tech where you are reading this tune of mine is basically the web page.
2/ Web site (web site): A web site is created with many web pages. That is, the page where you are reading this tune. If you come to home page then it is a page. The page you go to to login is a page. A web site is made up of such number of pages.
3/ Web application (web application): Web application is basically a website. But there is a slight difference here. You are reading this tune of mine this is a web site. But when there is a system for writing a tune and submitting it, there is a system for logging in, then it is a web application. Actually, to be honest, web site and web application are the same. If you want to distinguish between the two, you can think of it this way. Again though now web application refers to single page application (SPA). I said both to inform you.
4/ Web server (web server): Web server is basically a computer. Where all the information shown on the web site is stored.
5/ Web hosting (web hosting): To talk about web hosting simply, web hosting is where files, images, videos, etc. of the website are kept.
What happens when you search a web site in the browser?
I hope those of you who are reading this tune of mine know that a browser is required to access any web site. So now we will know what process to go through to access the website after entering the address of a website in the address bar of the browser.
We first search by typing the address of any website in our browser. Take for example https://www.facebook.com/.When we search by typing the Facebook address, it sends an HTTP request to the ISP (INTERNET service provider). ISPs are the ones that provide you with internet. After the request comes to the ISP, they look in their cache memory for something called facebook.com.
If there is, then it is good. And if not, then he makes another request to the DNS server. A DNS server is a domain name system that has a server. The function of dns server is to convert Facebook or any address to IP address. Because computers can't understand anything except IP or numbers. An interesting thing here is that if you search by IP without typing the Facebook address in the browser, you will still be shown the Facebook page.
This applies to all web sites. The dns server converts the name into an IP and sends it back to the isp. Now the isp knows which computer to visit. If the IP is of a server then the isp will make a request to that server. Now all responsibility is server. The server will first try to understand which page has been requested from it. He is asked for home page or message page. When it can understand which page is requested, the server will go to the database for that page's data. And will collect the necessary data.
